*#3370# - Enhanced Full Rate Codec (EFR) activation. Increase signal strength, better signal reception. It also help if u want to use GPRS and the service is not responding or too slow. Phone battery will drain faster though.

*#3370* - (EFR) deactivation. Phone will automatically restart. Increase battery life by 30% because phone receives less signal from network.

*#4720# - Half Rate Codec activation.

*#4720* - Half Rate Codec deactivation. The phone will automatically restart

If you forgot wallet code for Nokia S60 phone, use this code reset: *#7370925538#
Note, your data in the wallet will be erased. Phone will ask you the lock code. Default lock code is: 12345

Unlock service provider:

Change closed caller group (settings >security settings>user groups) to 00000 and ure phone will sound the message tone when you are near a radar speed trap. Setting it to 500 will cause your phone 2 set off security alarms at shop exits, gr8 for practical jokes! (works with some of the Nokia phones.)

What's the use of RBS:

Get Distance From Base Station - Place a call, when it is answered, press [MENU] until 'Eng Field Option' is displayed, press [OK], select 'Active Cell', press [OK], press [MENU] until 'Time Adv xxx' appears, where xxx is a number. Multiply this number by 550, and the result is the distance from the RBS (Radio Base Station), in meters.

Get Signal Quality - press [MENU] until 'Eng Field Option' is displayed, press [OK], select 'Active Cell', press [OK], press [MENU] until 'C1' appears. This is the signal quality. If it becomes negative for longer than 5 seconds, a new cell is selected.

The Service Provider (SP) Lock
The Service Provider (SP) Lock menu is used to lock the cell phone to the SP's SIM card. Once the cell phone is locked to a specific operator, if one inserts a SIM card from a different operator the phone will refuse to accept it! The cell phone will however accept another SIM card from the same operator.

To activate/deactivate this lock one needs a special secret code that is not available to the end user.

Here is how to activate the menu:

<**< Lock to Network? if pressing yes you have 5 attempts to enter NCK.

<**<< Lock to Network subset? if pressing yes you have 5 attempts to enter NSCK.

Warning: Your phone can be locked to a service provider FOREVER by doing this! If an invalid code is entered all five times, the menu will exit and be deactivated! Any further attempt to activate the NCK/NSCK lock Menu will result in the response "Not allowed"! However the NCK/NSCK lock can be recover through a direct clearing in the EEPROM.

Shortcut for Last Dialed call menu
If you for some reason don't want to enter the 'Last Dialed calls menu' by using the 'YES' key you can use the following key stroke instead: First '0' then '#'.

Bat. level indicator when turned OFF
When the phone is turned off and the phone is not changing - the bat. level can be seen for a short period of time by pressing the 'NO' key quick once (it has to be quick!) and then wait for about 2 sec. The bat. level will now be shown in the display at its normal position.

Access menu without Sim card
To access to the menu in your phone without having a card inside do the following: type **04*0000*0000*0000# When display say "Wrong Pin" press NO and you have access to the all menus: Info, Access, Settings, Calculator, Clock, Keylock On?, Mail, Phone book. NOTE if you try this on your phone may stop at Keylock On? menu and you´ll have to take your battery out to turn the phone on again.

While "connecting" is shown on the screen, the following procedure should be carried out: Press CLR then 0 then # and then NO (twice) so as to switch OFF the phone. You can then still speak on the phone while it is switched off but the SIM card does not record your calls which will lead to FREE phone calls in some countries.. we hope!!

Another variant of the code
Make a Call, while the phone says Connecting type 083# (the position 83 must be empty! ), when phone says Pos Emtpy, press the NO key and turn off the phone.

If you can make the call with the phone turned off you will face a problem when you need to hang up the phone...the only way for you to do that is remove the battery...???

An alarm clock turned up too but it never rang. I think this was because there is no clock in the phone.

Main PCB rear:Here is 3 main section like Transmitter, receiver, and analogue/digital processing.The rightmost section contains the main processor, flash program memory (1MByte), working RAM (32Kbytes), plus the signal processing circuitry required to interface to the RF (transmitter and receiver) and analogue (speech) sections. The red device top-right is the SIM, a smartcard chip containing the user identity.

Main PCB front:8KByte memory device left-centre holds user's stored numbers and option settings. Gold pads on right half of board are keyboard contacts.

The Flash program memory is 128Kbytes - substantially less than the digital unit, which uses a great deal more software signal processing.

To view IMEI number *#06#To view Software Version enter -> * <- <- * <- * CLR (Use with Care) The Latest Software Version is under Phone Info. To fine tune sound and clean up any echos, place the 388 into the car kit HF 2600. Then close all windows, engine off and type * # * # 3. The E 388 will fine-tune itself in about a few seconds. To activate operator lock <- * * <- (This locks the phone to one carriers SIM card - Use with lots of care) Press Yes to lock and No to notlock. You can also use the codes below to undo

this function. USE AT OWN RISK I have tested the function Lock to SP... At least on the 337 there's a submenu: Enter SPCK-code. There are 5 attempts, which is showed (05 attempts). At final attempt the phone beeps as a warning, 'this is the final try', when entering the menu... Wrong code exits the menu, so you are not stuck in something... When you have tried to enter the code (wrong) all five times, the menu is deactivated, and you'll get: 'Not allowed' when entering <-**<- Accessing the Service Program that is not provided with the 388. 1. Connect the 388 to Cable with RS232/TTL converter. 2. Set Comport to 9600bps, 8 data, 1 stop, no parity. 3. Power ON, wait for "2" and send "0B" to the phone. DO NOT Press ENTER. 4. R should be on screen. 5. Send TEST.BIN. (Send as a binary file) 6. 388 should answer "SP,OK". 7. R should be on screen. DO NOT write or read from the IMEI or SPCK area! If you try that you can send the phone to service at once, because you will automatically write FE or EF to EVERY cell in the EEPROM. In other words, all the calibration values for the radio is overwritten... (NOT good) Some commands in the ServiceProg: eere read from eeprom eewe write eeprom lime xxxx xxxx xxxx xxx Learn imei no. Returns Error. imei - Displays IMEI number To FlashProgram a 388: 1. Connect the 388 to Cable with RS232/TTL converter. 2. Set Comport to 9600bps, 8 data, 1 stop, no parity. 3. Power ON, wait for "2" and send "OB" to the phone. DO NOT Press ENTER. 4. R should be on screen. 5. send pre_xxx.bin to the MS. 6. You should recieve a ">".

7. send "0B" again.
8. R should be on screen
9. send prodload.bin to the MS.
10. recieve ">".
Done, I don't have the above files so please don't ask for them.
Interesting Informating (well I thought so :)
The names on the files, sj.....X45 tells you a couple of things. "sj" stands for Sofia-Jane, thats the internal name for the model and x45 stands for "sub-model". The 388 is called model 4/5. The latest 337 phones is called "cr", like in Cost Reduction. They rebuilt the oscillator from a bought-in to one built up with discrete components and that was cheaper.
Programming Channel Indicator or RBS
To enable, send the following command:

Wait for the OK prompt, power off* the phone and disconnect it from the interface cables. Powerup and browse through the menus.

Set ComPort to 115200bps, 8 data, 1 stop, no parity and watch all the phone commands on the screen and so on. Make a call and see what happens as well as shutting down.
*POWER OFF
You should press the NO button a few times until Shut Down comes up on the screen, when it does press yes and this will shut down the phone properly.

1. This is three different channels things depending on the phone state.

a. When the phone is idle, this shows "Bxxx". "B" stands for "Broadcast channel" (a logic GSM channel)b. When a phonecall is in progress, this shows "Sxxx". S stands for "Stand Alone Dedicated Control Channel" SDCCH for short.
c. When the phoncall in up, this shows "Txxx". "T" Stands for Traffic channel. The "xxx" thing is the channel number, 1-124.
2. This shows Rx Level. The values displayed is from 0 to 63. Rx Level is a indicator on how good your reception is for the moment. 0 is a signal strength of -110dBm. 63 is approx -45 to -50dBm.RXLEV is measured in dBm in such a way that incoming signal equals -110.5+RXLEV so that a RXLEV at 50 equals an incoming signal strenght at -50.5 dBm (plus or minus max deviation 0.5dBm)
3. This shows the output power in dBm.
4. This shows the timeslot used for the moment. You can see it when making a call.
5. This shows Rx Quality. Rx Quality is a measurement of how much error correction is required to the speech. 0 indicates none and as the figure rises you hear more pings and pongs on the speech as large parts of the frame are missing. If you have more RxQ then 5, you are on good way to loose your call. RxQuality reads 0-7.RXQUAL is measured by using a table wereas the biterrorrate or BER is interesting and measured in %

Software update, how?

Bypass the SP lock
With a Nokia 16xx/21xx/31xx/51xx/81xx that are SIMlocked to one privider you can bypass the SP lock like this:
1: Insert sim card of diferent provider.
2: Turn on the phone and press the UP VOLUME key for 3 sec. then release it and the phone says PIN CODE?
3: Press the "C" key.
4: Then Press * and wait until it desapear and apear again, then press * one more time and 04*PIN*PIN*PIN#

The phone now says: PIN CODE CHANGED (or ACCEPTED) and the SIM card is accepted until you restart the phone again. NOTE: On version 5.04 Nokia has removed this option !

The 54# Tip:
Type 1#, 2#........54# on the keypad (when you're not in the menu) to get the phone number used for with thiskey when speed dialing.

Update from 8110 >8110i impossible....
Even though NHE-6 is found on the bagside of 8110 too an update from that phone to the 8110i is impossible. The reason is simple. The hardware is different which means that the SW capacity in 8110i is bigger than the 8110.

Original Ringtone
If you want the original ringtone back after you have downloaded one you can send a message to yourself containing the text: //SCKL1581 After some time you will recieive a message that you can save, and your original Nokia ringtone is back.

What's a Business Card?
A business card is a special SMS message which is composed as following: //SCKE2 BEGIN:VCARD N:name TEL:number END:VCARD

Hands Free tip
To continue an existing call when placing the 8110i into the hands free car kit without it dropping the call, press the Memory button just before connecting the cable and placing it in the cradle.

Display extra text in call costs feature tip
If your network operator doesn't offer a call costs service, you can still make use of that function to display some personalised text on the screen of your 8110i. Go to Menu, [5], [7], [1], enter PIN2-code and choose Set. Then type in the limit of the currency units you're using (if the call cost service worked, you would have to type the cost limit of the calls) and choose OK. In this case I typed 8110. Then go to the next submenu (Menu, [5], [7], [2]), the Show costs in menu. Type in the PIN2 code again and select Currency. Type in the unit price, in this case number 1. Then type the name of the currency - you can use any string of letters and numbers 1-3 characters long. then type 2 letter then to confirm type two names begining with one of each of the letters. Then press OK to confirm it.

Quick saving while in call tip
Saving numbers to memory during a call If you type a number into your phone during a call, you will lose it when the call ends. To prevent this happening just hold down Memory button -- the number will be saved (with no name) to the next available memory location.

Deleting SMS messages quickly tip
When reading an SMS message, instead of pressing Option, Erase to delete the message, simply press [C].

Turning lights on temporarily tip
If you have display lights turned off, you can turn them on by quickly pressing and releasing the power button. They will stay on as long as you are pressing button.

Silent mode temporarily tip
You can put your phone into silent ringing mode temporarily by pressing Menu then [#].

Closing the cover without ending a call tip
If you press the menu key and then close the sliding cover during a call you will not end your call.

The new Enhanced Full Rate CODEC adopted by GSM uses the ASELP (AlgebraicCode Excitation Linear Prediction) compression technology. The older technology was called LPC-RPE (Linear Prediction Coding with Regular Pulse Excitation). Both operate at 13 kilobits.(but you take up more space on the network, so they can charge you more) - Talk-time is reduced with about 5%

Power Button Tip:
If you press the button for a short moment, the menu with the profiles is shown on the display. If you press one more time, the mobile turns itself off. You can use the up and down cursor keys to scroll and enable a different alert setting.

Quick SMS Typing
When typing SMS messages, you have to wait some seconds before you can type the next letter if it is in the same button than the previous one. There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.

1.Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
2.Take apart the phone.
3. De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).
4. Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).
5. If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".
6. If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".
7. Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone.
8. Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.

The Network Monitor gives you the following information.

Carrier number

MS RX Level in DBM

Received signal quality

MS TX power level C1 (Path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99.

RTL (Radio link timeout).

Timeslot

Indication of the transmitter status

Information on the Network parameters.

TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity).

Cell identification (Cell ID, Number of cells being used).

MCC (Mobile country code)

MCN (Mobile network code)

LAC (Location area code)

Ciphering (On/Off)

Hopping (On/Off)

DTX (On/Off)

Discard cell barred information.
The Reboot Trick
Should work on all software versions.
1. Go to calendar (menu - 8)
2. Make note / reminder
3. Enter some text into the edit box
4. Hold clear until whole text is cleared, then press Back
5. Press 0. Main screen is shown but a space appears on the screen. You can't see it of course.
6. Enter 4 digits (1234, for example)
7. Use the down arrow to move the cursor to the left side of the numbers and the space (2 times down arrow)
8. Now enter 6 digits and press the green "Call button".

Wait some seconds...the phone will now flash the background light and finally reboot. The trick should also work on other menus like the profile menu...

The James Bond Trick
If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.

Service Prover Lock
The service provider (SP) lock is used to lock the cell phone to the SP's SIM card. Once the cell phone is locked to a specific operator, if one inserts a SIM card from a different operator the phone will refuse to accept it! The cell phone will however accept another SIM card from the same operator.

All Nokia phones (2110 and newer) have four different SIM locks which can be used to lock the phone for upto 4 different providers. But most phones with restriction only have one lock activated. ( lock 1)

The main code used in Nokia phones is:
#pw+(master code)+Y#
This code is able to check, activate or remove Sim card restriction (SP-lock).
Use the * key to get the p, + and w chars.
'Y' has to be 1,2,3 or 4 - depending of what lock you what to deal with.

If you just want to check your phone use 10 random numbers Eg. 1234567890 as the (master code)
eg. To check if phone if restricted on lock 1 type the following code:

Please NOTE that these codes could be used with care! A user told me that it's only possible to type in about 3 different codes on each lock! Then something bad will happen ..therefore be careful!

Power Button Tip:
If you press the button for a short moment, the menu with the profiles is shown on the display. If you press one more time, the mobile turns itself off. You can use the up and down cursor keys to scroll and enable a different alert setting.

The 54# Tip:
Type 1#, 2#........54# on the keypad (when you're not in the menu) to get the phone number used for with thiskey when speed dialing.

Free Call Tip
NB. The tips needs Net Monitor enabled. Be aware that the trick wil remove Netmonitor in some sw versions like v4.73, v5.04 and v5.24.

1. Laungh the NetMonitor in your Nokia 51xx / 61xx
2. Execute the test number 497
3. Free calling for about 90 sec should now have been activated.

The trick has not been comfirmed working yet.

Revealing the Headphone and Car-Kit menus
Please note that if you do these next tricks, the new menus can't be erased without retoring the factory default settings. To do these tricks you need to short-circuit the pins on the bottom of the phone next to where you plug in you charger.

1. To activate the "Headset" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "3" and "4". After a short time the word "Headset" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-6 is now enabled.
2. To activate the "Car" menu, you need to short-circuit pins "4" and "5". After a short time the word "Car" will be shown in the display. Menu 3-7 is now enabled.

Quick SMS Typing
When typing SMS messages, you have to wait some seconds before you can type the next letter if it is in the same button than the previous one. For example try to write the word "letter", you have to wait before you can enter the second "t".. A much faster solution is to press the # button twice and then the letter "t".

Bypass the SP lock
With a Nokia 16xx/21xx/31xx/51xx/81xx that are SIMlocked to one privider you can bypass the SP lock like this:
1: Insert sim card of diferent provider.
2: Turn on the phone and press the UP VOLUME key for 3 sec. then release it and the phone says PIN CODE?
3: Press the "C" key.
4: Then Press * and wait until it desapear and apear again, then press * one more time and 04*PIN*PIN*PIN#

The phone now says: PIN CODE CHANGED (or ACCEPTED) and the SIM card is accepted until you restart the phone again. NOTE: On version 5.04 Nokia has removed this option !

Fast silent mode
In the newer versions (v.7.11 or higher) a quick silent mode can by entered. Press Menu then #.

The 54# Tip:
Type 1#, 2#........54# on the keypad (when you're not in the menu) to get the phone number used for with this key when speed dialing.
