Samsung S5560 Reviews

The Samsung S5560 lacks 3G connectivity but comes with Wi-Fi connectivity. It's hardly the solution that most carriers opt for (and carriers ARE the biggest cellphone contractors), but we guess Samsung have gone for pleasing the end client this time. In an effort to keep the price down, trading 3G for Wi-Fi is a compromise many users would make.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, check out the rundown of the Samsung S5560 features:

This phone is clearly a Samsung Jet wannabe - the styling, the camera, the Wi-Fi connectivity all make it a cheaper alternative to the Jet. Sure, tradeoffs have been made for the sake of a lower price, but if you've never owned a touch phone before, the S5560 makes a great introduction.

The timer on non-touch operated phones seems to be running down - touch phones seem to get the best features and the most hype. This makes it harder and harder to say no, especially now that their price is no longer prohibitive.

On the office side, QuickOffice provides access to Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents, although critically this is in a viewing capacity only. We can't imagine seriously editing a business document on the E51's two-inch display, so perhaps Nokia has a point in not including a full editor; still, some business users may find this a distinct drawback.It is somewhat weaker on the "fun" side of the equation. While it does sport a 2-megapixel camera, there's only the one camera, which rather limits the appeal of video calling. Likewise, it'll handle music and video playback, and comes with 130MB of on-board memory to accommodate these (upgradeable via microSD), but they're pretty clearly a bit of an afterthought compared to the more entertainment-focused mobiles on the market currently.The * and # keys are slightly smaller than the 7 and 9 buttons due to the tapered edges of the phone, though it doesn't hinder daily use. While we like the excellent tactility of the main keys, we can't say the same for those on the sides, such as the rubberized volume, power and record buttons. They are not disastrous, don't get us wrong, but pressing them requires a little more concerted effort.

Design:
Nokia's E series of smartphones is aimed pretty squarely at the business community, but in fact it has a lot to offer the well organised consumer too.There's the now familiar 240x320 pixel display in 16 million colours. There's 130MB of internal memory expandable with a microSD slot, Bluetooth and of course all the usual features you'd expect from a Nokia.The beauty of candy-bar handsets is you can almost never go wrong with the design.At 12mm thick, the E51 is one of the leaner enterprise devices from the Finnish phone-maker, second to the E61i which is 0.5mm thinner.Cementing the durability are the stainless steel runs on the entire edge of the front faceplate and battery cover.To sum it up quickly, the design approach to the E51 is a very reserved and safe one. Nokia didn't conjure any fancy tricks for this enterprise device. Although we adore the slim profile, the handset looks a tad too tall due to the two-tone fascia. That said, the phone is still relatively compact and should fit comfortably in the pocket.
The bottom half is peppered with various shortcut keys and a generous-sized keypad. Above that is a modest 2-inch QVGA display with an ambient light sensor and LED light indicator customizable to light up in the event of missed calls, incoming text/multimedia messages or emails.The screen is readable even in bright outdoor conditions, which is great. However, it's probably not suitable for prolonged Web surfing or document reading, unless you want to end up straining your vision.It's trivial, but one that's definitely appreciated. Pressing the key from anywhere in the phone's menu brings us to the standby screen. The same can also be done with the End call control.

Problem & Solve:
# Problem was that Nokia E65 / E51 would associate with AP and everything

This is somewhat surprising since I would not expect these settings to
have much difference regardless of whether encryption is used or not..
Or at least UAPSD should affect both. Maybe there are some WMM-related
interop issues that apply to encryption, too.

I've seen number of interoperability issues between Nokia S60 phones and
some APs when power saving is enabled and this happens also in the
unencrypted configuration.

# To get Nokia E65, E51 (and possibly others) working, parameters
# "uapsd" and "wmm" both have to be _disabled_ by setting them to zero
# with iwpriv. This has to be done _before_ the phone associates with the
# bridging AP. Changing these parameters while the phone was associated

Did you try just disabling UAPSD? I haven't done much testing with WMM,
but I've been able to work arounds most issues by disabling power saving
the phone configuration (advanced options for Wireless LAN).

RTS and Fragmentation Thresholds for IEEE 802.11 do not actually change
the MTU at all; they are done at a lower layer in the network stack.
Changing of the MTU could probably be removed from hostapd, but I would
not expect it to cause problems in most cases since the bridge interface
MTU would likely be used for figuring out how large a frame can be sent
out and most other sources of packets would use 1500 octet MTU anyway.

Do i need to buy some softwares for these programs to work onm WLAN?? According to my local service provider, I can only access IM and Push mail via WAP. I want to access it via WLAN so I don’t have to pay for GPRS usage. Is it possible??

Its simply jsut great and works efficiently too.. have heard that there are battery problems or it getting heated but none of it I have faced.. Its pretty sturdy too. There are a number of freeware sites providing great softwares for 3rd edition softwares..Would love to see a solution for IDB’s question about the picture being too small when a call arrives.

cognosco:I have a solution for those of you having difficulty connecting your e51 to home wifi/wlan network.I have a Sky broadband router, manufactured by Netgear and it uses WPA security. I received the message 'no gateway found' when attempting to connect to the wifi network.The solution was to manually edit the access point settings (tools, settings, connections, access points).Then I entered 'advanced settings' and manually edited the IPv4 settings. You will need to assign the phone an IP address, define the subnet mask, and default gateway.The subnet mask and default gateway for your network can be found by going to the command prompt on your PC (sorry, don't know how to do this for Macs) and typing 'ipconfig'.For the manual Phone IP address, simply use the default gateway address and change the last number to something else e.g. 10.Good luck! My thanks to other folks who take the time to post their solutions for others to benefit. It was through scouring the forum that I figured this solution. My next challenge is to see if it can connect to a VOIP service.

I Phone Unlocking:The skills of the mobile phone unlocking experts will clearly be tested to the full once the latest 3G Apple i-phone is released in may. Ha. Ha. Ha… replies Apple. “You go and try and get one unlocked. For a start our new 3G iPhone isn’t SIM replaceable. In other words the sim card is manufactured into the phone and is not replaceable by you. This means the phone can only be activated in our stores and even if you did manage to activate it all the settings for your network are hard coded into the device. However you could try to remove the SIM with a hammer. That is, if we have actually put a sim in there !”

I know what you are thinking. There is always a hacker out there which will eventually be able to unlock the iPhone for any network. Well, there probably is but I don’t think Apple or the network will give in so easily. They have a lot more to lose this time if the phones do get jail braked. They have lowered the costs of the handsets because they are relying on gaining the extra revenue from the applications which will be sold separately.

Its only a rumour that the new iPhone 3g hasn’t got a slot for the Sim card because of press released pictures on the net from apple themselves. However it would make commonsense and if the rumour is right then its going to make it very hard to use your own sim in it there for very hard to crack.

Chris Brodie:Which Country is this in?In some countries it is illegal to lock the phone to a particular network. So hence they should have the sim card slot.I personaly cant see them having one with and one without.

Alan Vazquez:I think that this is bull s**t. Why does Apple care so much if we unlock them? We wouldn’t be unlocking them if they had chosen T-Mobile (U.S.) in the first place. AT&T sucks balls man. It is soo retarded. Their rates are super high and to top it off their signal sucks. I use T-Mobile because I use their pre-paid plans. Which are more affordable for me. If AT&T provided a $15 pre-paid/pay-as-you-go option, I’d do that. Their current option for that is ridiculous! $50+what you use. Screw that man. UNLOCKING AND JAILBREAKING ALL THE WAY!

sleepy:You are right, unlocking iPhone 2 will be extremely hard. Apple deliberately left the keys under the mat for the hackers with iPhone1 so they could make iPhone2 bulletproof.Probably, this story got about because Apple’s handset releases to carriers for pre-approval were sealed shut. But unlocking (and therefore SIMswapping) is legally required in several countries. iPhone 2’s shown to media representatives included a SIM tool in the box, but no dock.

M.:Seems to me that the only reason Apple is making the iPhone so hard to get, outside the ATT network, is the hype and the fact that everyone wants one!..I say screw Apple…show no interest on the damn thing and see where they are left? easy to say but hard to do..LOL. I know. ATT does suck..their network is poor and the rates are too high. I had to switch to T-mobile because I coulnd’t use my cell phone in my own home…bad reception, or no reception! Interface seems ok, a little sticky but a nice improvement over my hate WM6.1. Does it kill apps and process automatically or at least easily--could see that bug/feature really sucking the life out of the responsiveness.I think I'm about done with MinMo devices now, and will upgrade my Sammy BJ to a 3G iphone next month.I really liked the swiss army knife usability with WinMo, just had a hard time with the crashes, memory leaks and difficulty getting it to fit in with the Macs. Really looking forward to see what android has to offer in terms of media playing, and mac connectivity.

PROBLEM:There is a problem in music player in Nokia E71

My E71, I have "problem" with my Music Player, I can't seem to open it, all other apps seems to be OK. WOuld appreciate if some one could help?

Solve:backup your phone and mem. card.Reset your phone by pressing *#7370# in standby mode.I hope to solve your problem.

Some another problem:

GPS starts in E71 quite slowly and it seems to be less precise, than external Bluetooth using GPS modules. It can be notices particularly when you use application like Nokia Sports Tracker. The important question is if, hopefully, this can be improved by further software changes?What seems a problem currently, and what let’s hope will improve soon, is the lack of software. E71 allows using some S60 applications written for previous models (like E61i), but some are still not compatible at all. There is no Fring, Yahoo!Go works only in version 2.0, SplashID work is unstable, etc. Maybe this could be a good idea to create Top 10 of useful software for E71?Camera used in E71 is the most disappointing element. What’s wrong with it? Poor quality of pictures taken without direct light from the background. There is no way to save settings, like white balance, which results in too dark pictures. No good flash, and no geo-tagging. At least the camera application is fast.

BEST FEATURE:

After using Nokia N80 for almost a year, having two batteries and chargers almost everywhere (home, job, plus USB mobile charger) I really love E71’ battery! The battery lasts for about 3 days of my intensive usage. A friend of mine who bought his device a few days after I got mine, wrote me that his phone works even up to 9 days! Awesome!Moreover, the device is really well designed. Slim, sexy, definitely one of the best looking Nokia devices available. It reminds me the times when 7110 was as desirable as E71 is now.

**The N95 lacks support for U.S. 3G networks; standby battery life is poor; and performance is somewhat sluggish. The hardware feels a bit cheap, and the sliding mechanism could be more secure. It's also very expensive.It is a main problem of nokia n95.Normal user cant use this phone for its high prize.

Solve:

1.In the battle to have as much free RAM as possible, it's important to avoid any applications or utilities that try to auto-start on your N95 and hang around in RAM. A good example is Nokia's Wireless Keyboard utility, which works brilliantly to connect you to a Bluetooth keyboard but then defaults to staying loaded in RAM at all times, using up to 2MB on its own. Switch to it and alter its Settings to turn this behaviour off and then 'Exit' it manually. You know it makes sense.
Several third party 'helper' utilities try to do the same thing, e.g. Epocware's Handy Weather. Best avoided if you value your RAM.So.always free your mobile phone ram.

2.There's a big bug in the v10 and v11 N95 firmwares that you need to be aware of. When started, Camera's default 'Sharpness' setting is 'Normal'. But change ANY of the 'scene modes' (e.g. 'Close-up') and 'Sharpness' gets set to 'High'. To use the N95's camera in a scene mode, remember to also go down to the bottom of the camera control icons and reset the 'Sharpness', otherwise your pictures are going to end up effectively unusable!
This has been fixed in the new v12 firmware, so upgrade via Nokia Software Update (see above) or pester your network operator/service centre, etc.
