Nokia unveils 8800 Carbon Arte fashion phone
Nokia has a new premium handset - the 8800 Carbon Arte that is made from carbon fibre, titanium, polished glass and stainless steel to exude an unprecedented level of class and finesse.
Besides the RAZR, few handsets have milked longevity like Nokia's 8800 slider -- first introduced in April 2005 (spied in March). Unlike RAZR, however, the 8800 somehow manages not to annoy... too much.Fine, but it's the rocket-esque carbon fiber, titanium, and stainless steel materials that help push the price tag to €1,100 (that's about $1,600) before taxes and of course, carrier subsidies.
Arte, a follow up to its Sirocco handsets. The 3G 8800 Carbon Arte will retail for £870 SIM-free, from next month. It is made of carbon fibre, titanium, polished glass and stainless steel. Touch/movement sensitive technology enables the clock to appear with a double-tap and the ringtone to be silenced by turning the phone over.It also has a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera and anti-fingerprint coating to reduce smudging.
The minimalistic and seamless surfaces, slide mechanism and impressive weight of the phone all
feature throughout the Nokia 8800 Arte line. Also available on the Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte are soundtracks and wallpapers created exclusively for the range. Combining timeless style with superb functionality, the Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte offers the unique tap-for-time feature - consumers can tap the steel surface below the display twice and a clock appears on the screen. The turn-to-mute silencing mechanism allows individuals to silence incoming calls in a discrete manner by turning the phone over, screen-side down.
