Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Feature: Sony Ericsson is one of the latest cell phones of Sony Ericsson company With a 800×480 VGA screen. It’s not just that the screen has an amazing resolution, it’s that the screen is vibrant and clear as day. If your vision isn’t top notch you might have to increase the font size in settings because it gets a little small with that super high-rays. Sunlight can’t phase it either as we had no problem using it on the go outside.

We didn’t put the speakers through our normal tests just yet to be honest. We tried a couple MP3s and they sounded good, not great.

The keyboard is a perceptive area for many people. Anyone who follows us know we take it very seriously — we put them all through the ringer! So, it pains us to report, that at least with our meticulous unit, the keyboard wasn’t great. It didn’t take time to get used to it, it just didn’t perform like the way we had hoped. You can play various interesting games with it.

Special Feature: It has a sliding keyboard by which u can play various interesting games.

Mobile Phone means a simple communication device, using which you receive calls and make calls. Right? To some extent it is right. But when you will see the bigger picture the statement is showcasing a small part of a mobile phone. We use phones as music player, as camera, as computer, as direction device, as gaming console and as what not. So communication is just a small part of it.

Now every one wants to have a mobile phone which can become successful in providing all these services to them in a nice manner. One mobile phone manufacturing company which is habituatedto launching such handsets is Sony Ericsson mobiles.

A sleek steel body, a blackberry-like QWERTY keyboard, 3-inch VGA screen, multiple-panels, and loads of other features, that’s Sony Xperia X1, the new mobile phone from Sony Ericsson, its answer to the likes of iPhone and Nokia N96. But priced at Rs45,500 or roughly half a lakh, will this product find takers? Anil Sethi, President, Sony Ericsson India argues that it’ll, because of the value proposition it offers.

But if the recent experience of the much-hyped Apple iPhone is anything to go by, the road ahead will not be easy. The company did not spell out how many units of the Xperia it plans to sell, but it is optimistic. The company will be selling the phone through its premium stores.
So what’s unique about the phone? Ramanath Bhat, the man behind the phone, says it’s the pre-loaded panels. There are 9-interactive panels which sit on the touchscreen interface of the phone. “I’m doing business now, home now, the phone doesn’t adapt. We’re doing panels now. Whatever you’re doing, you can set the panel. It’s the ability for user to change the user interface of their mobile phone based on how they lead their mobile life. It’s not being addressed by any of our competitors; it’s the first time the user interface power is given to the user”.

Another Mobile Samsung :

To hear Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer talk about Samsung Electronics’ new upgraded smart phone, T*Omnia, Korean consumers will soon get the mother of all smart phones on the planet. “The T*Omnia is at the forefront of this new generation of mobile devices,” declared Ballmer at a Seoul ceremony unveiling the phone on Nov. 3. “I like the T*Omnia phone because it brings together communications, productivity, multimedia, and entertainment in a way that meets the needs of both consumers and mobile professionals.”

The T*Omnia, an upgraded version of the Samsung Omnia that has been available in Asia and Europe for more than two months, will be introduced only in the Korean market from around Nov. 20 by SK Telecom, Korea’s largest mobile carrier. It certainly offers more features than the iPhone. It includes mobile TV and 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and image stabilizer as well as Microsoft Outlook, Wi-Fi, GPS, fast Internet access through 7.2-megabaud per second HSDPA and Bluetooth support. But the real reason why Ballmer speaks highly of the phone is that it runs on Window Mobile 6.1 to allow users to swap any Window-based files seamlessly with their PCs.

Samsung is negotiating with a U.S. carrier with an aim to roll out the phone in America by the end of this month. But it is not clear wether U.S. consumers will have access to the upgraded phone or its old version, which has a slightly smaller touch screen with lower resolution. The new version has a 3.3-inch LCD (versus a 3.2-inch screen) with a much higher 800X480 resolution (versus the earlier 400X200).

The luxe Xperia X1 from Sony Ericsson

What kind of smart phone can $800 buy? The luxe Xperia X1 from Sony Ericsson. At this price, it probably appeals only to recession-resistant gadget lovers, but it says something about what some gadget makers think the rest of us would want if money were no object.

In this instance, what you get is more sleek sheath than intelligent innards. Its glut of options makes it pokey and difficult to navigate.

Out of the box, the device is pure eye candy, with a black or silver metal-and-plastic body, crisp 3-inch touch screen and slightly curved QWERTY keyboard that slides out smoothly with a satisfying click. The X1 has minimal included memory, so you'll need a sizable microSD card if you want to access lots of songs, videos and photos on it; I used a 4 gigabyte card during my testing, which was enough for plenty of content.

But even before I turned it on, I started to get nervous about the whopping number of choices I'd have to make. I felt more confused about the phone's operations than excited about the freedom to use it as I pleased.

And there are several cool features on the X1. Though the iPhone has a larger screen, the X1's touch screen sports a sharper resolution. As such, videos look quite good, and I had fun watching some clips of "The Simpsons." You can also stream some content from the Internet, such as videos from YouTube, and adjust video sizes to make lesser-quality clips look more palatable.

The X1 also has a standard headphone jack, which is becoming increasingly common on smart phones and makes a big difference to music fans like myself.

Surfing the Web is easy on the X1, and, as with videos, online content looks very good on the screen. The phone includes the Internet Explorer Mobile and Opera Mobile browsers, and I did appreciate having more than one option here.

The built-in 3.2 megapixel camera takes good photos and can also be used for videos. Phone calls sounded impressively clear - for $800, they'd better - and if you can find a friend whose phone also supports it, there is a video calling option.

Still, my issues with the X1 often overshadowed the fun. Many times it seemed fairly slow to open applications or complete actions, displaying the multicolored Windows processing icon while I waited.

Even without slowdowns, it usually took me several steps to complete a simple action. When I wanted to change the panels on the device, I had to click a little tools icon, click the panel I wanted to change, click it again to confirm I really did want to alter it, choose a new panel, and click again to select it. After all this clicking, I could barely remember what I was trying to do in the first place.

The X1 is a gorgeous device. But even if you can afford it, dealing with its overabundance of choices would, in the words of Dewey Finn from "School of Rock," test your head and your mind and your brain, too.
