Google and Intel are working for next generation smarphones

Intel and Google have declared a new partnership to built low-powered Atom CPUs and their successors running with Google's Android platform as the chipmaker attempts to launch itself into the smartphone market.

Intel executives stated at their annual developer conference on Tuesday that Android phones featuring Intel CPUs should be available in the first half of 2012. Both companies say they will work together to optimize Android to run on the x86 architecture, a move that should speed up development and reduce the time to market of Intel based Android devices.

ARM based chips dominate the Android smartphone market. In contrast, Intel's architecture is unrivaled for desktop usage, but to date it has been rather inefficient in devices with limited battery life due to high power drain.

"The smartphone business is not established in terms of the ultimate shakeout of who's going to win and who is going to lose," Otellini said. "You saw what happened in terms of how fast Android took share from Apple. So good products on good platforms can really still make a big difference in this industry."

While Android technically could support Intel chips, it much is easier for a manufacturer to launch an Intel-based Android phone to the smartphone market.Until now, it has been up to phone manufacturers to make their Android phones compatible with Intel chips. But future versions of the Android software will be optimised to work with Intel chips.

"It's really about Google saying that Intel is going to be a first-class citizen in the Android ecosystem," said David Kanter, an analyst with Real World Technologies. But he added that Intel still needs to win over handset makers if it hopes to succeed in the smartphone market.

Samsung To Release 2GHz Dual-Core and Flexible Smartphones By 2012

Samsung, perhaps the world’s most emergent smartphone maker over the past year, has confirmed it intends to push the barriers of mobile computing, committing to releasing a 2GHz dual-core powered handset by 2012.

The development of a 2GHz dual-core chip would provide new Samsung smartphones with data processing capacities of 4GHz, with the company considering selling the processing units separately.

Samsung, quoted by Korean search provider Daum, said:
“We are planning to release a 2Ghz dual core CPU-equipped smartphone by next year. This product will have the data processing capacities of a regular PC.”

Samsung said that it is aiming to have tablets and mobile phones with flexible displays by 2012. Following on the monumental success of the Galaxy S II, which has sold well over ten million phones in half a year, Samsung is now well on its way to manufacturing a flexible screen for the masses and is spurred on by its own success.

Samsung purchased Liquavista, a tech company which produces electrowetting displays. These are bright, flexible, transparent and above all, low-cost.

What technology Samsung has currently shown off, impresses. Its flexible OLED is contained inside a rigid shell and is similar to Nokia’s offering, in that with a twist and a pull of the screen, interaction is possible. Its technology incorporates light generating pixels within flexible screens that lack backlights.

Flexible displays have been in fashion since early 2008 when a bending e-Reader made its way from Plastic Logic. Following this, Sony created and demoed one of the world’s first flexible displays in 2009 named the “Flex OLED”

Samsung is slowly winning the endless smartphone battle against rival Apple. In the third fiscal quarter 27.8 million Galaxy S II’s were shipped, in stark comparison to the 17.1 million Apple devices.

Nokia will release 12 Windows Phone 7 in 2012

Nokia will be releasing 12 Windows Phone 7-powered devices in 2012 and some will feature ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processors.The news comes via Forbes who spoke to STMicroelectronics’ CEO Carlo Bozotti at STMicroelectronics’ analyst day.

At present, there’s no word from inside Nokia on how its progressing with the development of its Windows Phone 7-powered smartphones.Of course, there have been more than a few rumours of prototype devices already being passed around within the company, so we expect to see, or hear, something before the close of 2011 on this subject.Stephen Elop, Nokia’s Microsoft-loving CEO, has also expressed his desire to get a Windows Phone 7-powered Nokia handset to market before the close of the year.

We’ve heard lots of reports about a device called the Nokia W8, which is basically the Nokia N8 flashed with Windows Phone 7, and the Nokia W7 – a variant of the Nokia E7, just with a Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Here’s a snippet of our report on the Nokia W8 and Nokia W7:

‘In terms of spec, latest murmurings suggest that the Nokia W7 will feature a WVGA display, Qualcomm QSD8250 chipset, Windows Phone 7 OS and an 8-megapixel camera. This is reported to be the first device to hit the market, coming sometime in late 2011.

The Nokia W8, a Windows reboot of the Nokia N8, will be the flagship handset, featuring a dual core Qualcomm CPU and Adreno 320 GPU, as well as a 12-megapixel shooter. The Nokia W8 is expected to get a release date in early 2012, possibly Q2.’

All in all, that’s all we know at present. So expect to see some Nokia Windows Phone 7 action in the latter part of 2011 or early 2012, at the latest.

iPhone Battery Issues and Solutions

The iPhone 4S battery-life car-crash may not actually be fixed by the iOS 5.0.1 update! Some users are even complaining that it’s worse than before! Has Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) made a mess of the first OTA update? Many users are still reporting or complaying rotten-to-the-core power performance.

Apple has released iOS 5.0.1, an update to its mobile OS that fixes a series of issues that drained the iPhone’s Owners began reporting that the phone was exhausting its battery at a prodigious rate, with some claiming that their batteries were losing 1% of their power every few minutes battery, almost immediately after the launch of the iPhone 4S.

iOS 5.0.1 is the first update to Apple’s iOS 5, increased performance, which brought the notifications tray, and iCloud to the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Apple eventually figured out that there were bugs in iOS 5 that were causing the battery drain and enlisted developers to help them find the bug.

On November 2, Apple admitted that iOS 5 had battery performance issues and admitted that the company would fix the problem with iOS 5.0.1.Apple has released several betas of the updated OS in the last week.

5.0.1. adds multitouch gestures to the original iPad, fixes iCloud bugs and improves voice recognition for Australian iPhone users in addition to fix the problem. This is the first OS update available both via iTunes and over-the-air.

iPhone 5 Apple's Latest Leaks

There are many rumors about iPhone5 around many blogs and companies. I am very much interested about this next generation device and collected some information.According to these sources, "Apple plans to completely overhaul its product lineups, including iPad, iMac, iPhone and MacBook Air, in 2012." The company will finalize its parts ordering for this ambitious project in December, according to the same sources. DigiTimes doesn't indicate whether December is the usual time for Apple to finalize parts ordering for the coming year. The new iPhone and iMac "are unlikely to be revealed until the second half of 2012."

"Operating System so called iOS6 in June 2012 along with iPhone 5."

"It is expected that the iPhone 5 will integrate a fast 1.2-to-1.5 GHz quad-core A6 chip, with probably 1GB or more of RAM."

"Apple is changing its design philosophy, overhauling its entire product line and doing a massive redesign for the iPhone 5, which may actually already exist and is only waiting for decent LTE chips."

The Quantum Dot LED technology could be a possible delivery for the iPhone 5. The new technology needs less power consumption while delivering the same quality of an OLED screen. It does not degrade the quality like OLED thanks to how its nanoparticles emit light.

Rumors of a curved glass display on iPhone 5 have been doing the rounds ever since DigiTimes reported in May that Apple had placed an order for glass cutting machines which are capable of making curved glass covers.

"Another speculation indicated that iPhone 5 will have a 3D camera. Apple has filed a patent application related to 3D picture taking to the US Patent and Trademark Office later in March, according to an AppleInsider report. The filing described a system that would be capable of capturing, processing and rendering 3D images with the additional dual-camera hardware."

And recent days have proved that this is an interesting time for Sony Ericsson, with Sony announcing that it is to buy Ericsson's part of the business.

Thin and light seems to be one of the battlegrounds for smartphones at the moment. The Arc S is impressive as it bows very slightly in the middle, which makes it seem even thinner than it really is. It feels lovely in your hand, with the smooth plastic offering sufficient grip, but while still feeling nice to hold.

Inside this smartphone there's a microSD card slot too, for storage up to 32GB. An 8GB card comes with the phone, which isn't bad for storage, but the phone itself has quite modest capacity, and will easily fill up when you install a lot of apps. 8GB also seems a little stingy, especially with 16GB cards costing less than £15 retail. Still, if you need more storage, the low cost of expansion cards means you're not going to have to break the bank. And give thanks that you can just lob more storage in, the same isn't true of all smartphones.

The back of the Arc S is very flimsy, but in-situ this isn't an issue at all. The smartphone never feels cheap or like it can't cope with day-to-day use. Impressive, considering it only weighs 117g (the same as the original Arc).

Hard Reset (*#7370#): This method completely reformats the C: drive (phone memory). All the user information will be deleted. Like images, music files, installed applications etc. Hence, the phone is set to the default factory settings.
On performing any of above methods of formatting the phone, device will ask you for a security/lock code. Default code is 12345.

Soft Reset of Nokia Mobile Phone:
1. Switch off your Nokia phone

2. Now Press following key sequence *#7780#

3. Enter Default lock code is 12345.

4. While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone.

We mean, we love the Samsung Galaxy phones, but you have to admit that they seem a bit clunky compared to this fabulous concept design from Bon Seop Ku.

The design for Samsung was inspired by drawing with water on a table and is completely transparent. Even the battery is liquid (this is a concept, don't forget).

The device would have an AMOLED screen that you would be able to interact with simply by rubbing the water display with your fingers.

It appears VZBuzz has gotten their hands on some Verizon marketing material showing the iPhone 4 price dropping to $150.99. The screen also shows a plethora of Android and Blackberry price drops as well. I don’t find it hard to believe this is legitimate as many carriers and retailers have been known to drop the price of the iPhone in anticipation of a new hardware announcement — like iPhone 5 — in order to clear out inventory.
Verizon currently offers refurbished iPhone 4′s for $150, so could we see a price drop in those as well?

Hacker group “Anonymous” hits Apple online survey server, publishes user data on 27 individuals

Anonymous, a well-known hacker group, is claiming to have broken into an Apple server and obtained usernames and passwords. The server in question appears to be the abs.apple.com server, which Apple utilizes for online surveys. Anonymous issued a tweet from its Twitter account on Sunday claiming Apple could be a potential target.
“Not being so serious, but well … Apple could be target, too. But don’t worry, we are busy elsewhere,…”
The usernames and passwords of 27 individuals were then published to the text-sharing site Pastebin. As of Monday, that specific server displayed an error message. Apple declined to comment when asked.
For those of you not familiar with the hacker group Anonymous, they are well-known for attacking sites and companies that they consider opponents of the popular site WikiLeaks. It’s also said that the hacker/WikiLeak group LulzSec emerged from Anonymous as well. These groups have hit Sony Corporation, the Central Intelligence Agency, and many others simply for their own enjoyment (or maybe to make a point?).
I don’t see groups like these setting their eyes on Apple when it comes to a seriously malicious attack but who knows? They don’t seem to put all their efforts into exploiting any one particular company but any data breach is a concern. Hopefully Apple is looking into this.

Nokia New Windows Mobile Phones 2012

Nokia board chairman said on Wednesday Nokia Windows phones will be on the markets from 2012 on and renowned that Nokia had other possible partners in addition to Microsoft and Google.

Microsoft and Nokia signed a ultimate agreement that seals the dealannounced in February between the two companies, creating a formidable competitor against Google‘s Android and Apple‘s iOS.
Now, Nokia can travel away from its aging Symbian operating system, embracing the Windows Phone software to create a new ecosystem of Nokia hardware and Microsoft software. The companies announced that Nokia-built Windows Phones are previously in development, “with the aim of securing volume machine shipments in 2012.”
While Nokia engineers are busying themselves creating hardware for the Windows Phone, Microsoft gains the authority of Nokia’s mapping and navigation platform, certain to enhance Microsoft’s Bing search engine. Those mapping services will also show up on Nokia phones organization Windows Phone, but there was no word about whether those mapping services would also run on Windows Phone handsets not made by Nokia.

What in relation to developers? The companies plan to easiness the transition for Symbian developers to move to the Windows phone operating system. Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Galaxy S Android

Smartphone was released last we saw all four major airlines had the HTC Touch Pro 2, and there were a couple of different iterations of the device, in essence, a couple, which included a 3.5 mm jack headphones and a couple used the HTC USB port for headphones. A couple of months ago, Samsung announced that Samsung would bring their Galaxy S line, these same four major carriers. Two are now available, Live Samsung and AT & T Samsung 4G Captivate with Epic shops from Sprint, August 31. Samsung charm is coming to Verizon, but we still release date or price. Each of the four devices Galaxy S has a slightly different model to go along with the various names of the Samsung 4G Sprint Epic is one of the main differences between a hardware QWERTY keyboard.

Like all other phones Galaxy S, everything is on the screen. The 4-inch AMOLED Super dominates the front of the 4G Epic, surrounded by a bezel black. What makes this device different from their cousins cross-bearer is a single regulator, which packs five rows of goodness to the light. Because of this team, Epic 5.5 oz heavier than the 4G Captivate for AT and T (4.5) and T-Mobile vibrant (4.2) oz. Epic is also understandable 4G thicker than two of these phones (0.56 inches versus 0.4 inches). We believe that this commitment is worthwhile for the great experience of strikes, but that is certainly going to see the clutter in your pocket and when you hold the device in the head. Moreover, the 4G Epic is lighter than the Evo 4G (6 ounces) and the droid 2 (6 ounces), which also has a sliding keyboard.

Super Sprint and Samsung AMOLED display was so important in this case that capactive buttons below the display is dimmed when the screen is off. Those who believe that the pairing of a large 4-inch screen with a physical keyboard is unreasonable to try first epic 4G. This arrangement is spacious, but also provide excellent tactile feedback (and a satisfying click as you type). And unlike other slider phones we've tested with dedicated number row, Samsung did not post this too close to the bottom of the screen. Initially we had problems to build up speed due to the size of this keyboard is, but in general it is a pleasure to use. We are also aware that separate menu, Back, Home and Search buttons flank the letters. Our only complaint is that there is a dedicated button @ symbol you find on the Motorola Droid Droid and 2, you must press the Fn key first.
